5 Simple Steps to Get Perfectly Washed Greens
One of the most common questions people ask about green smoothie preparation is how to properly wash their greens. In truth, this is an excellent question because greens grow in soil, and they often have some amount of dirt still on them even in the store. Follow these simple steps to have perfectly clean greens for your smoothies every time:
Step 1. Fill a medium sized bowl with cool tap water
Step 2. Without untying your bundle of greens, hold the greens firmly by the stems and repeatedly dunk the leafy part of the greens into the water.
Step 3. Swish the greens around in the water until the particles of sand have washed off the leaves and have sunken to the bottom of the bowl, leaving your greens perfectly clean.
Step 4. Take the greens out of the water and give the bunch a few good shakes to removed excess water. Now you may dump the water you washed your greens in, but be sure to dump it outside so the sand particles do not block your sink. If your greens still feel gritty, repeat steps 1-4.
Step 5. Cut the greens from the stems just above the rubber band or twist tie holding the bundle together and discard the ends.
