Blendtec vs Vitamix
People always ask me what blender I use to make green smoothies, and they want to know which blender is the best. This blog post is my honest review of the two leading blenders on the market today. I have worked with both blenders for over 20 years, and have had several models of each. Both Vitamix and Blendtec have characteristics that set them apart from all other blenders. These are both powerful machines that yield more than satisfactory results, yet over the years I have noticed several key differences that lead me to reach for my Vitamix every time.
First of all, the thing I like most about the Vitamix blender is that it never overheats. In 2013 my family held a green smoothie retreat in Australia where we made green smoothies for 70 people five times a day and we only had one Vitamix to do all the work. Mind you, this was not a new Vitamix, and it never once gave us trouble. On the contrary, on many occasions while catering for large numbers of people with the Blendtec, the machine would simply overheat, and be out of action for over an hour. This can be devastating in a situation where hundreds of hungry people are counting on being serve food at a specific time. I finally figured out that I could cut down on the time the Blendtec takes to cool down after overheating by shoving it into a freezer.
The second reason the Vitamix wins first place in my book is because I can blend something for as long as I need. Some smoothies, salad dressings, or cake frostings take extra time to get perfectly smooth, and I need to leave the blender on longer. The Blendtec has pre-determined blend cycles that often don’t last nearly long enough and I have to repeat the blend cycle several times to get a good consistency in a simple smoothie.
Lastly, I think the Vitamix is a better blender because the lid works better than the lid on the Blendtec. The lid on the Vitamix has a top piece that can be removed so one can toss in ingredients while blending. This is a very useful feature. The lid of the Vitamix blender seals well, is entirely leak proof, and gives one a little extra space in case she accidently overfills the blender container. In contrast, the Blendtec lid has to be held down so it does not leak. The Blendtec does have a piece on its lid that can be removed, but it is too small to really serve its purpose.
Overall, I find that the Vitamix blends better, faster, and is a more reliable blender than the Blendtec. I do not sell Vitamix blenders, and am not sponsored by Vitamix. I recommend this blender on my website because I sincerely believe it is the best.
