Reading: A Gateway to Timeless Wisdom
Sometimes in our busy modern world it is easy to forget about the simple things that enrich our lives in ways that matter most. Books are one of those incredible items that have the power to improve our lives in countless ways. I would like to discuss the valuable role books play in our world and the reasons why reading is such an enriching activity.
Throughout history, there have been philosophers, poets, artists, writers, world leaders, explorers, actors, inventors, and others who have lived extraordinary lives and have a wealth of wisdom to share. Many of these great people died long ago, but they live on through their written works. Books allow us to hang out with the greatest human beings that ever lived. The best part is, should you be rudely interrupted, and have to answer the phone, or make dinner, or go to work, Einstein will patiently wait for you to get done. He will wait hours, days, or even weeks for you to get done with whatever you need. Then, without skipping a beat, you will remove your bookmark, and Einstein will clear his throat, and say, “Ahem, where were we? Ah, yes, relativity…”
If you ever feel lonely and need a friend, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, and Confucius are available to console you whenever you need. On a whim, these great philosophers will gladly pour their whole hearts out for you and give you not some, but all of their remarkable wisdom. Wisdom is the sum of learning. It is the reward for overcoming great obstacles. When we read books, we are gifted the wisdom it took other people sometimes an entire lifetime to acquire. Furthermore, to understand something is to acquire an asset. When you truly understand something it becomes yours and belongs to you forever, it is a possession that can never be stolen or lost. The things you learn from books are major life assets that you may carry with you wherever you go without even needing pockets to hold them... read more in this free eBook.
